Parents Strengthen Their Support of Ithaca College

Ithaca College parents continued their generosity to the College in the 2000–2001 fund year. Gifts to the Parents Fund from 2,440 parents of current students and alumni totaled $213,822. This marks a 15 percent increase in dollar amount over the previous year. Parents Fund Committee chairs David and Jeannie Brooks, parents of John ’02, completed their first year of their leadership of this effort and will continue in that role for this fiscal year. Thanks are due them as well as the members of the Parents Fund Committee for their work in making the 2000–2001 fund a success.

Allocation of Gifts

Parents designated their gifts to a variety of areas at the College; 28 percent chose to make unrestricted contributions. These are especially helpful because the funds can be used where the need is greatest. Others chose to designate their gifts for an individual school (25 percent) or programs such as athletics (18 percent), the campus chaplaincies (14 percent), or other areas, such as the library or scholarship support (15 percent). No matter how they are directed, parent gifts directly benefit the College and form an important part of the annual giving campaign.

Any parents who are interested in serving on the committee or who would like more information may contact Emily Russell, Parents Fund coordinator, by calling (607) 274-3942 or e-mailing erussell@ithaca.edu.
