KudosICTV’s NewsWatch 16 won second place in the television newscast category at the College Media Advisers national convention in New Orleans in October. The newscast, directed by Michael Johnson ’02, aired April 8. NewsWatch 16 also won CMA’s TV Diversity Award for reportage by Julie Cochran ’03, Ben Dobson ’01, and Jenelle West ’02. Each year College Media Advisers, the professional association dedicated to serving the needs of collegiate student media programs and their advisers, hosts two national conventions that offer educational sessions, panel discussions, speakers, on-site competitions, and critiques. Michael Malpass, anthropology, and anthropology majors Erica Bergman ’03, Marissa Doster ’03, Denitsa Savakova ’02, and Meaghan Sheehan ’03 coauthored a paper, "Preceramic Occupations of the Lomas near Camana, Southern Peru." Based on the archaeological research they conducted last summer in Peru, the paper was presented at the Northeast Conference on Andean Archaeology and Ethnohistory in London, Ontario, in November. Gordon Rowland, organizational communication, learning, and design, received the 2001 Outstanding Book Award from the Association for Educational Communications and Technology’s design and development division for his book A Tripartite Seed: The Future Creating Capacity of Designing, Learning, and Systems. Susan Weisend, art, showed her work at Cornell University’s Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art last summer as part of a two-month exhibit titled Three Ithaca Artists.
