College Circle Apartments Added to Housing Options

Ithaca College has reached an agreement with a local developer, Integrated Acquisition and Development Corporation (IAD), on a long-term lease of the College Circle Apartments for on-campus student housing.

The institutional planning process had identified the need to add 600–800 apartment-style housing units to the residential life system in order to meet the expressed desires of resident students. After considering a number of possible alternatives to address this need, the College determined that the quickest and most financially practical means of adding to campus housing was to lease the nearby College Circle complex.

"We are very excited about this opportunity to offer our resident students attractive apartment-style housing in close proximity to the campus," says Brian McAree, vice president for student affairs and campus life. "The College is working diligently to ensure that the transition of College Circle to on-campus housing is a positive process for all concerned."

The current apartments, which contain 324 bedrooms, will be renovated during the upcoming summer and will be ready for occupancy as of August 15. In addition, the developer is planning to build another 276 bedrooms, to be available for occupancy for the fall 2003 semester.

As part of on-campus housing, the complex will be supervised by residential life staff according to College policies and regulations, and the Office of Campus Safety will provide safety and security services. Details on the process used to assign students to specific apartments, the conditions for residing at College Circle (such as room cost), and the range of services that will be provided for residents will be communicated to students shortly.
