Concert to Feature the Work of Karel Husa

Faculty artists and student ensembles from the School of Music will honor Pulitzer Prize-winning composer and former Husafaculty member Karel Husa with a free performance of five of his works. The concert will take place on Monday, February 4, at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall.

The Ithaca Wind Quintet will perform Five Poems for Woodwind Quintet, the Ariadne String Quartet will be joined by pianist Read Gainsford for Variations, vocalist Angus Godwin and pianist Charis Dimaras will team up for selections from Twelve Moravian Songs, and Deborah Martin will perform Elégie for Piano. Graduate student conductor Cayenna Ponchione will lead the percussion ensemble in Three Dance Sketches for Percussion.

A Czech native, Husa won the Pulitzer Prize in 1969 for his String Quartet no. 3. He taught composition at the College from 1967 to 1986 and is the Kappa Alpha Professor of Music Emeritus at Cornell University.
