Program to Celebrate King

An afternoon of readings, music performances, and film screenings will be held on Monday, January 21, to celebrate the life and legacy of the Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. All of the events, which will take place in the Emerson Suites of Phillips Hall, are free and open to the Ithaca College community.

The first part of the program, which includes lunch, will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. It will feature remarks by Roger Richardson and David Speller, director and assistant director, respectively, of the Office of Multicultural Affairs; music selections by the Calvary Baptist Church Youth Choir, Fe Nunn ’80, and Mabel Welch; and readings from King’s works by Cynthia Baldessare, assistant professor of theater arts. The program will continue from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. with a screening of Eyes on the Prize, the Emmy Award–winning documentary series on the civil rights movement.

The program is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Cinema on the Edge series in the Roy H. Park School of Communications.
