New Interdisciplinary Program

The new minor in integrative health studies is designed to provide students an opportunity to study alternative and complementary health modalities from a variety of medical, philosophical, anthropological, social, economic, and cultural perspectives.

A participant in the Center for Life Skills rehabilitation program enjoys a game of modified indoor golf that was developed by a therapeutic recreation student.

An interdisciplinary program, it involves nine departments in the Schools of Health Sciences and Human Performance, Humanities and Sciences, and Music. Through the minor students are encouraged to expand their thinking on, and enlarge their understanding of, the concepts of health, mind, and body; how these concepts are culturally structured; and differences in the ways in which they are defined, explained, and studied. The minor also allows students to explore the rapid movement toward increased use of alternative approaches, their impact on the health of the public, their impact on the structure of health care delivery and health care financing, and the quality of the science supporting them.

The Integrative Health Studies Speaker Series will continue though the spring. For more information on the series or the new minor, contact Richard Schissel at 274-7089 or schissel@ithaca.edu.
