Master Class in Broadcast Journalism

KaneAward - winning broadcast journalist Larry Kane will present a master class for students, faculty, and staff in the Roy H. Park School of Communications on Wednesday, February 26. Known as the dean of Philadelphia television news anchors, Kane had delivered the news for stations KYW, WCAU, and WPVI during his nearly four-decade career. Since his recent retirement, he has been serving as a broadcast and strategic consultant to private corporations and public media companies.

Kane is currently working on his second book, titled "Ticket to Ride," which is an account of his experiences as the only American journalist to travel with the Beatles during their 1964 and 1965 tours of America. His first book, Larry Kane's Philadelphia, chronicled the virtual "who's who" of international newsmakers he interviewed as a journalist. His assignments have included the Middle East peace talks, the return of the American hostages from Iran, the devastating earthquake in Naples, Italy, the 1987 Reagan-Gorbachev summit, and an in-depth interview in Poland with Solidarity leader Lech Walesa. In 1985 he and his colleagues were honored with the prestigious Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for their coverage of the confrontation between Philadelphia police and the radical group MOVE. For more information on Kane's visit contact April Korpi in the Park School at 274-1789 or akorpi@ithaca.edu
