The Distinguished Alumni Award
Richard Miller, Jr. '69, MS '71Richard Miller was a longtime member of the Alumni Board of Directors, a college trustee, and eventually dean of Ithaca College's School of Health Sciences and Human Performance from 1990 to 2001. He remains active and connected with Ithaca College as a volunteer, advisor and friend.
The Lifetime Achievement Award
T. Walter Carlin '54The late T. Walter Carlin established the Sir Alexander Ewing Clinic and a mobile audiology unit for children and senior citizens, developed programs at both the Guthrie Clinic and the Hahnemann Medical College in Pennsylvania, and served as a consultant in Europe, the Middle East, and Central America, as well as on a United Nations task force. Numerous well-known audiologist and speech-language pathologists were positively influenced by Carlin, and some of his graduates have gone on to achieve professional fame.
2004 Outstanding Young Alumni Award
Allan E. Naplan '94Allan E. Naplan '94, has worked as a professional singer, administrator, and composer. Many of his compositions for children's choir are represented by major publishers, and to date his works have sold nearly 400,000 copies. His works have been performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, and the White House. Naplan was honored when his piece An American Anthem was chosen by NASA to accompany Columbia's astronauts on their first morning in orbit.

Craig R. DeMaio '94Craig R. DeMaio is currently senior vice president and financial adviser at Merrill Lynch, where he is solely responsible for the management of over $200 million in personal assets. DeMaio serves as a company committee member for developing business and community service and has made significant contributions to organizations in the New York area. He is training for his second run in the New York Marathon.

Thomas R. SalmIn September 2002, Thomas R. Salm retired after dedicating a career of 26 years to Ithaca College. Salm oversaw the construction of many buildings from the idea stage through completion.

William F. Fuerst, Jr.The late William F. Fuerst, Jr. was involved with Ithaca College as long as he had been with his alma mater, Cornell University. For more than 40 years, Bill was a very special friend to Ithaca College. His willing contributions, participation, good nature, and sincere interest in the College's students, faculty, and staff characterized all that he did with and for IC.
