A Note from the President of the Alumni Association Board of Directors

The alumni board recently spent a weekend in Ithaca working to enhance the connection between alumni and the College. We heard presentations from campus administrators, met with student leaders, and participated in a program to identify ways we can best expand our relationship with the College.

In addition, we elected two alumni to three-year terms on the board of directors: Michael Slepian '71 and Daniel Tillapaugh '01. Their terms begin in June. Welcome, Michael and Daniel!

As always, we encourage you to nominate alumni who would contribute to the work of the board of directors.

Robert Baker (1967, School of Business) writes, "After 35 years with Los Angeles Unified Schools, I retired in 2004. I am now working for California State University San Bernardino out of the Palm Desert Campus supervising student teachers and intern teachers in the credential program. I live in Palm Desert with my wife of 20 years, Karen."

Julia Thom(1970, School of Music) writes, "After 14 years in Norway Mick and I returned to the States to fly hot air balloons in WNY and eventually found our niche in New Mexico. Mick teaches trumpet and I am a part time instructor at a 2 year college, and part time lead accompanist for a local church. Our daughter has followed our example by traveling the world and now lives in Bergen, Norway."

Faith Dominy (1979, School of Music) writes, "Greetings from Asheville, NC, my home since 1988. Those who knew me at IC will probably not be surprised to learn that my life since 1979 has often taken the road less traveled." (more)

Bruce Wilson (1981, School of Business) recently started his own business called Allegra Print & Imaging located in Cleveland, OH. Bruce was previously employed at Charter One Bank. "After 20 years in the financial services industry I decided to go into my own business."

Kirsten DeMento (1988, School of Communications) and James Holmes are proud to announce the birth of their baby boy, Hunter Britton Holmes. He was born on October 5, 2005 and weighed 9 lb., 1 oz. Hunter happily joined his big sister, Tabor, who just turned five. Mom and Dad are enjoying being parents!

Jeannine Walston (1995, School of H&S) writes, "After being tumor free for a few years, I'm now dealing with a brain tumor recurrence. Because surgery and radiation pose serious risks to my mental functions, and chemotherapy has very limited efficacy for my condition, I need to pursue other treatments. The most promising treatments I've uncovered after extensive research are available in Germany. I plan on receiving immunotherapy treatments at the Medical Center of Cologne beginning in May of 2006. I need approximately $70,000 to cover the costs of the six-month treatment plan and additional funds for ongoing immune therapy support. Given the total sum necessary, I'm humbly raising funds to support my medical care. For more information about how to donate, go to http://www.healingfocus.org/Fundraising.htm."

Heather (Hamilton) Watson (1999, School of Communications) moved to Savannah GA with her husband Ben Watson (1998, School of H&S) in June 2004. Heather started working at the Savannah Morning News and has recently been awarded a weekly technology column. To the people of Savannah, she is the "Prima Data."

Lunéy Sánchez (2000, School of Business) and Mark Tubis (2000, School of Business) are happy to announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony will take place on September 8, 2006 in East Hampton, NY.

Jessica Evans (2005, School of Business) and Bill Chernega (2005, School of Communications) are happy to announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony will take place on July 7, 2007 in Los Angeles. They write, "We met at Ithaca our Freshman year in Boothroyd Hall, and started dating our Sophomore year and we've been together ever since. We got engaged February 11, 2005 in Los Angeles."

ICQ Alumni Spotlight: Marissa DeVito '03

Entrepreneur Marissa DeVito '03 helps music aficionados remix their favorite tunes.

by Carl Hansen '99

The family dinner table doesn't seem the most likely place for the genesis of a big-business idea, but that's exactly where UmixIt, a new way to listen to music, was born. While she was still a student at Ithaca College, Marissa DeVito '03 and her brother, James, discussed how it would be cool for ordinary people to listen to each track of a band's studio session separately -- something usually reserved for recording engineers and a select few others. Their father, Don, a veteran music executive who had been bringing his children into the studio for years, agreed and helped to back his children's entrepreneurial venture, UmixIt Technologies.
