December 2006 - January 2007

A Note from the Executive Director

Marsha Eger '70As year-end approaches, all of us in the alumni relations office want to wish you and your family a very happy and healthy holiday season. We hope to see you at one of our events across the country and on campus in the new year. But please especially mark your calendar for Alumni Weekend, the first weekend in June. In fact, please make getting back to Ithaca and reuniting with old friends one of your New Year's resolutions. We would love to see you, learn what you've been doing, meet your family, and share what's happening here on campus. There's a lot to tell you and much new for you to see.

Warm wishes for a very happy new year,

Marsha Eger '70
Executive Director of Alumni Programs

Philly, Washington Campaign Events Draw Large Crowds

December's regional campaign events in Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., were suffused with a historical flavor as almost 300 alumni, parents, and friends gathered to mingle and hear news of the largest comprehensive campaign in IC history.

Liberty BellAttendance at Philadelphia's Franklin Institute (named for the famed statesman, scientist, and inventor Benjamin Franklin) totaled nearly 125. Attendees of the December 6 event were treated to speeches by Sarah Legg '05, who shared her experiences as an Ithaca College student and described how those experiences prepared her for medical school, and Lynn Paolantonio, who spoke enthusiastically about being a parent of two IC students and her support of the Campaign for Ithaca College: Making a World of Difference. In closing, President Peggy R. Williams gave an informed update about both the College and the status of the campaign, which has recently topped $94.3 million. Many of the alumni, parents, and friends were enjoying themselves so much that they stayed well past the advertised closing time for the event.

Capitol BuildingThe Philadelphia event was followed by another spectacular evening, this time in Washington, D.C. Over 175 people came to the Australian embassy December 7 to hear remarks from dean of interdisciplinary and international studies Tanya Saunders, associate professor of biology Susan Allen-Gil, and Eric Pierce '05. Each speaker offered his or her perspective on Ithaca's unique experiential learning opportunities and lent support to the campaign. Once again, President Williams also shared news about the status of the campaign.
