A Note from the Director of Alumni Relations
This winter many of you on the East Coast also had the chance to attend the regional premieres of a wonderful short film produced by Ithaca College faculty, staff, and students. A World of Difference: Five Stories from South Hill documents in dazzling high-definition format some of the terrific experiences our students have on their way to a first-rate education. This spring more of these events, presented by President Peggy R. Williams and notable cohosts, will be offered in Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Minneapolis, and Boston. If you're able to attend, do so! As one alumnus said, "By far, the best IC gathering I've been to." Visit www.ithaca.edu/dvd to see a preview of the film and register online.
Enjoy the lengthening days and the warmer temperatures. Here in Ithaca we've even seen a few snowdrops blooming.

ICQ Alumni Spotlight: Michael A. Battle '77
Michael A. Battle '77 administers the country's chief federal law enforcement offices.
What legal issues might arise if those displaced by Hurricane Katrina were housed on cruise ships off the Louisiana coast?
What would happen if a crime were then committed on board? Who would have jurisdiction? The state of Louisiana or the federal government, which prosecutes crimes in violation of maritime law?
Such questions of jurisdiction are nothing new to Battle, who as U.S. attorney of Western New York from 2002 until just a few months ago was often asked to determine -- when not overseeing the prosecution of tax evaders or the pursuit of drug smugglers -- when exactly a boat in Lake Erie on the border with Canada could be boarded by the Coast Guard and when it couldn't be.
