A Note from the Director of Alumni Relations

Just a few weeks ago, nearly 800 alumni, family, and friends came back to Ithaca to celebrate Alumni Weekend. The receptions, picnics, and dinners were humming with laughter and shared memories. Old friends found each other, new friends discovered each other, and not even the notorious overcast skies could put a damper on the festivities. Take a look at some of the photos from the weekend.

Many thanks to everyone who participated and helped out. To those of you who couldn't make it this time -- we missed you!

Next year's Alumni Weekend will be June 3-5, 2005. We're looking forward to another wonderful weekend and to seeing you!

ICQ Alumni Spotlight: Matthew Ginsburg '88

Heart & Soul

by Julie Waters, M.M. '91

At first glance, Frank Pour seems an unlikely hero -- until you start paying attention. Then the charm, joie de vivre, and down-home smarts of this retired 85-year-old factory worker and nursing-home entertainer become apparent.

Paying attention is what Frank's nephew Matthew Ginsburg '88 did -- so much so that he decided to quit his full-time job with MTV, a job he loved, and spend months following his uncle Frank around with a camera. And paying attention is what audiences are doing to the delightful film he made about his uncle Frank and aunt Tillie.

Uncle Frank won the audience award for best documentary at the 2002 Newport Film Festival, was named runner-up audience favorite at the San Francisco International Film Festival, and received honorable mention for best documentary at the Woodstock Film Festival. It was also accepted for screening at a handful of other festivals worldwide. Watching it, one senses that it is a true work of love -- of the filmmaker for his subjects and of the subjects for him.
