"Nixon was president, and the Vietnam war was at its height," Knight recalls. "It's hard to express how angry we were at the war, including its expansion into Cambodia in 1970 and the Christmas bombings in 1972."

On Saturday, November 10, and Sunday, November 11, they picked up the gauntlet, sacrificed some sleep, and started the repartee to create unforgettable characters in bizarre situations that we can identify with (on some level). By Sunday evening -- voila -- a sitcom outline.
