Campaign Accomplishments

Athletics and Events Center

Through the Campaign for Ithaca College: Making a World of Difference, we set out to raise $20 million toward the first phase of construction of a new athletics and events center, which we then believed would include a 130,000-square-foot field house and 81,000-square-foot outdoor, lighted turf field. We exceeded our campaign goal, raising a total $20.2 million toward those two prime components of the A&E center.

But, then, an amazing thing happened. In the final days of the campaign, the Atlantic Philanthropies contributed $17.5 million to ensure that an aquatics center would be built in the first phase, rather than later in the project, as we had expected. And the Atlantic Philanthropies’ generosity didn’t end there. The foundation also contributed $7.5 million toward our ongoing fund-raising in the form of a challenge grant.

With the athletics and events center, we will finally be able to give our student-athletes up-to-date facilities worthy of their championship efforts. And, as the largest indoor venue on campus, the center will allow us to gather the entire campus community under one roof for important events, such as Convocation ceremonies, concerts, and lectures by nationally recognized speakers.

We expect construction to begin in spring or summer 2008, provided that all of the necessary municipal approvals are in place. The outdoor, lighted turf field may be available for use in fall 2009, and we hope to have the field house completed in spring 2010.
