Campaign Accomplishments

Academic Innovation

Ithaca College is known not only for the excellence of its faculty, but also for the strength of its teaching model, which combines classroom knowledge with practical, hands-on experience through internships and other fieldwork opportunities.

Gifts to the Campaign for Ithaca College: Making a World of Difference have funded a number of new academic initiatives and co-curricular opportunities:

  • Through a multi-year gift from the Atlantic Philanthropies, Ithaca has established the Center for Faculty Research and Development, which allows for faculty release time and workload flexibility to accommodate professional development and innovation.
  • A gift from Jay ’72 and Judi ’73 Linden established the Linden Center for Creativity and Aging to explore the relationship between creativity and aging and the benefits creative expression offers for the elderly and their communities.
  • Several foundation grants have funded Project Look Sharp, a program to develop media literacy materials for high school and college students.
  • Gifts in honor of Heinz and Judy Koch, both retired faculty members, are creating a fund that will support students working on collaborative research with chemistry faculty during the summer months.
  • The Jack and Flo Bernard Fund will support summer student research in biology. Jack Bernard and his late wife were both IC employees and parents of John Bernard ’89.
  • A gift from John Babcock, a friend of the College, will fund one or more projects annually devoted to the assessment and improvement of students’ writing skills across College curricula.
  • A grant from the Knight Foundation is allowing Ithaca College to take the lead among seven institutions in the development of activities related to Journalism in the New Media.
  • The Littauer Foundation Judaica Book Award has augmented the library holdings in Jewish Studies.
  • A grant from the Sloan Foundation is supporting the sociology department’s Stephen Sweet in performing research and curricular development related to work and family life.
