Tenure and Promotion Approved

In February the Ithaca College Board of Trustees granted tenure and/or promotion to almost two dozen faculty members and awarded the title professor emerita to retired mathematics professor Marcia Ascher.

A health services administration instructor, Julie Hayes Boles '84, was promoted to the rank of assistant professor. In addition, seven associate professors were promoted to full professor: Jules Benjamin (history), Charles Ciccone '75 (physical therapy), Deborah Montgomery (performance studies), Jack Peck (psychology), Gary Sforzo (exercise and sport sciences), Michael Twomey (English), and Rodney Winther (performance studies).

Fourteen members of the faculty were granted both tenure and promotion. Associate professor of music Grant Cooper was promoted to the rank of full professor, while the following assistant professors were promoted to associate professor: Mary Turner DePalma (psychology), Norman Johnson (theater arts), Katharine Kittredge (English), Stephen Lahr '75 (physical therapy), Marian MacCurdy (writing), Deborah Nawoczenski (physical therapy, Rochester campus), Lauren O'Connell (art history), Mary Ann Rishel (writing), Cynthia Scheibe (psychology), Ellen Staurowsky, M.S. '79 (exercise and sport sciences), Jill Swenson (television-radio), William Tastle (mathematics and computer science), and Gladys Varona-Lacey (modern languages and literatures).
