Alumni Club Spotlight

Ode to Joy

One of this year’s most exciting and enjoyable programs took place in the Albany, Boston, Long Island, Washington, and York, Pennsylvania, areas. Students from the Ithaca College Chamber Orchestra and Concert Choir went on tour with selected choral pieces and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony. Before each concert the regional clubs hosted a dinner or reception. Local alumni and current parents were treated to wonderful gatherings and sneak previews of the new Center for Music at Ithaca College. Both President James J. Whalen and Dean Arthur Ostrander were on hand to discuss that project --- and others soon to come. The music tour was a complete success, with all participants hoping for an encore next year.

On March 22, during the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance annual conference in St. Louis, nearly 50 Ithaca graduates attended a reception. HS&HP dean Richard Miller ’69, M.S. ’71, assistant dean John Bonaguro, and several faculty members hosted alumni from across the nation.

The Metro New York Business Professionals Network is doing its part in Ithaca College’s admission efforts. This past March the group hosted a reception for incoming business school freshmen and their families. The event gave our future students the opportunity to mix and mingle with some of our prominent alumni volunteers, interim business dean William Scoones, and members of the admission and development staffs.

The Ithaca College Offices of the Educational Opportunity Program, Career Planning and Placement, Admission, Minority Affairs, and Alumni Relations, in conjunction with Metro New York alumni, once again hosted STAR—"Students Trained and Ready." STAR, a program that matches current students with alumni in a job shadow program and introduces current students to prospective students, culminated in a three-hour mixer at the Loews New York Hotel. Nearly 60 alumni, parents, and current and prospective students attended.

On April 12 alumni from the windy city of Chicago gathered to honor President Whalen for his 22 years of service to the College. Hosted by College trustee Diane Frankle Storck ’70, this event gave our Chicago alumni the opportunity to speak with the president about his tenure and his hopes for the College’s future.

Curtain Up

Once again, over 150 alumni, faculty, and students gathered for the annual reception for theater alumni over spring break. The party capped off a five-day series of workshops, held every year in New York City’s Theater District.
