MTV.
It's the channel that made the rock video essential to the American music industry. Its nonstop smorgasbord of videos, music documentaries, concert recordings, and animated shorts is as defining a part of the American diet, culturally speaking, as the burger and fries to go.But will MTV ever be as British as fish 'n' chips, as French as a croissant au jambon, or as German as liverwurst on pumpernickel?
Maybe, say Peter Einstein '79 and Peter Dougherty '77, veterans of MTV Networks Europe --- as long as it continues to adapt and evolve, taking its cues from its continental viewers.
