The School of Business recently completed production of a promotional video for the Center for Trading and Analysis of Financial Instruments. In February the International Business Association sponsored a daylong trip to the United Nations. Ten students participated, along with Professor Hormoz Movassaghi, the student club’s faculty adviser. The trip consisted of a tour of the United Nations and its major divisions, such as the Security Council and the General Assembly.
The tour was followed by a secretariat briefing on growth in trade across countries and continents. The visit concluded with a presentation by the head of Israel’s economic mission to the UN, highlighting trade and investment opportunities in Israel and the significant progress achieved in the development of Israel’s infrastructure and a broad range of high-tech industries.
All of those who participated in the trip found it very educational and recommended it become an annual tradition. The IBA gratefully acknowledges the efforts of international business major Ari Cohen ’98 in organizing this trip.
Under the tutelage of associate professor of accounting Alan Cohen, five accounting majors helped their peers complete their tax returns this spring. The service was free of charge. The volunteer income tax assistants --- seniors Beth Berger, Keri Curtis, Andrea Herzog, Greg Naviloff, and Kevin Nervegna --- worked out of Cohen’s office in Smiddy Hall, using a new tax accounting software, Intuit-Pro Series. They also provided this service to the greater Ithaca community, using the Women’s Community Building.
On the evening of March 4 the newly formed Management Club, in conjunction with the Financial Management Association, sponsored a "Meet the Deans" function in Clark Lounge. The purpose of the event was to provide students with an opportunity to meet and converse with the acting dean and the assistant dean in an informal setting. The activity was very well attended, and the student associations involved plan to make this event a once-a-semester tradition.
