WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (20-8)

Ithaca won the Empire Athletic Association crown and in the process earned an automatic berth in the NCAA play-offs for the first time in program history. Coach Christine Pritchard’s group then upset Binghamton, the region’s third seed, 71-65, to advance in the tournament. An 81-57 loss to unbeaten William Smith ended the most successful campaign the Bombers have enjoyed in women’s basketball.
Junior Margo McGowan, who earned first-team all-EAA and second-team ECAC upstate New York all-star honors, averaged 12.1 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 3.8 steals an outing. She became the school’s career steal leader during the course of the season and now prepares for her senior year ranked fourth in career rebounds (639) and seventh in all-time points (801). Twin sisters Jen (pictured, #20) and Shannon Cotton were a nice offensive complement to McGowan. Sophomore Jen Cotton, another first-team all-EAA pick, set Ithaca records for season (52) and career (72) three-point baskets in a tenure that is only 46 games old. Shannon, a sophomore who transferred to Ithaca this past summer, tossed in 38 three-pointers.
Coach Pritchard, who pushed the Bombers to the third 20-win campaign of her 12-season tenure, shared EAA coach of the year honors.
