A Question of Privacy
I'm really excited about the Ithaca College Web site! I am especially
pleased to see that the Ithaca College Quarterly is published here.
I am specifically looking for the "Class Notes" section of the
Quarterly, but don't see it in the table of contents. Would you tell
me where to find it? Thanks, and great job!

Editor's reply: Many people have been asking
the same thing. Because of the nature of the Web, anything on line is potentially
accessible to millions of people around the world --- unlike what's in
the printed magazine, with its limited, specific audience. "Class
Notes" includes information intended solely for that targeted audience,
and we've chosen to protect the privacy of our alumni by not including
"Notes" in the on-line version of the Ithaca College Quarterly.
The Web address for the rest of each issue is http://www.ithaca.edu/icq.

Next Best Thing to Being Here
After many years of enjoying the Quarterly, I am finding your
Web page to be great fun. I haven't been to Ithaca since graduation in 1965,
but the Web site is almost like a visit. (Okay, okay, I'll come back some
day.)
The Quarterly and the Web are two good ways to keep in touch.
It would be nice to see more alumni news and have the ability to contact
former classmates using your Web site. I know there are problems with e-mail
security, but maybe that can be worked out in the future. An e-mail address
book for alumni would be great. A tour of the campus and its various buildings
would be nice, too. Anyway, keep up the good work.

Editor's reply: So glad you brought up these
points! An alumni e-mail directory is in the works; Kelly Redder of the
Office of Alumni Relations has been hard at work compiling it. See the
"Alumni Club Spotlight" in this issue
for more information. We do hope you'll come to campus for a visit. But
in the meantime, you'll soon be able to take a "virtual tour"
of the campus on the recently redesigned Ithaca College Web site (photo).
Wedding Bell Clues
Hi! I was just curious why it took so long for pictures from weddings
to get published in the Quarterly. Most seem to be around a year
old. No big deal, I was just wondering . . .

Editor's reply: We often don't receive wedding
pictures until a long time --- sometimes more than a year --- after the
nuptials have taken place. Even when we receive them earlier, space limitations
can force us to hold pictures for an issue or so --- it seems a lot of
our alumni are getting married these days! We do make a concerted effort
to run pictures as soon as possible after we receive them.
Please note that you'll have a better chance
of seeing your photos --- for either "Weddings" or "Class
Notes" --- in print if you follow a few guidelines: (1) Identify yourself
(with the name you used while at Ithaca College as well as your current
name), your class year, major, home address, and telephone number so we
can contact you to verify information. (2) Identify all other persons in
the photo, especially IC alumni, with full names. Include IC alumni's class
years. (3) Send only photographs that will reproduce well in black and
white.
(4) Mark the photograph with your name and
address so we can return it to you if you like. Remember, we are a quarterly
magazine, so we may hold onto the photograph for awhile before we have
room to run it in an upcoming issue.
Rhymes with "Whistle"
I read with interest the very informative and
interesting article by Mike Wilson (ICQ, Summer 1997) on longtime St. Louis
Cardinals coach George Kissell '42.
I can remember how Bucky Freeman described George as "one of the most
knowledgeable and outstanding teachers of the game of baseball."
I played for and managed under Bucky. On road trips he couldn't say enough
about George Kissell and his abilities to understand the game of baseball
and --- more importantly --- how he could teach young players to play and
understand the game. George, like Eddie Sawyer '35 [who, we are sad to report,
died this autumn --- ed.], is one of the best that came through Ithaca College.
What he does and how he does it will go down in baseball history. Bucky,
who wrote the book on our great game, is and was right, as usual.
Keep up the super work and teaching, George. Let's hope you'll make the
Baseball Hall of Fame.
