SURPRISE

More than 100 former Ad Lab students held a surprise reception for Howard Cogan, associate professor of television-radio, at the ABC Gallery in New York City in July. Cogan's former students were there to honor him on his retirement from the Park School after 17 years of distinguished teaching and service.

In connection with his retirement, a fund-raising effort was launched as a tribute to Cogan and his wife, Helen, who did much to support her husband's leadership of the Ad Lab teams. Created to recognize and honor the Cogans' many years of dedication to the teams, the Howard and Helen Cogan Ad Lab Endowment Fund will help future students by providing additional resources for plans, books, research, and travel. More than 140 Ad Lab alumni have donated to the fund, which now totals $19,500.

KUDOS

Ithaca College Television and WICB-FM received awards at the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Association's annual awards banquet in Syracuse. Both stations were cited for their reporting of the abduction and murders of two Dryden High School cheerleaders. Sponsored by the Westing-house Foundation and administered by the Foundation for Independent Higher Education, the scholarship is for minority students of full-time, junior year standing who are interested in pursuing careers in broadcast communications, particularly in technical, production, news, and programming areas.
