Designing Woman Takes National Prize

Dark RaptureJennette Kollmann ’00 won the 2000 Barbizon Award for Theatrical Design Excellence in lighting design — the highest national honor awarded in that category — at the Kennedy Center/American College Theater Festival. Kollmann won for her work on the Ithaca College Theatre production of Eric Overmyer’s Dark Rapture, receiving $500 and an all-expenses-paid, seven-day trip to New York City, where she met top theatrical lighting designers. The contest was judged by award- winning lighting designer Beverly Emmons, and the winning designs were exhibited during the festival.

Kollmann graduated in May with a bachelor of fine arts degree in theatrical production arts and a concentration in theater technology. While studying at the Ithaca College London Center, she held internships in lighting design at the Pentameters Theatre and Vari-Lite Productions.

Two other Ithaca seniors, Gordon Strain and Shana Skop, won awards at the Kennedy Center/ACTF regional competition this winter. Strain received the Barbizon Award for Theatrical Design Excellence in scene design, and Skop was recognized for costume design excellence. Both awards honored the students’ work on Dark Rapture.
