ABC's Carole Simpson Speaks on Race, Gender, and the News
After joining NBC News in 1974 and covering Congress for Washington affiliate WRC-TV, Simpson began reporting for ABC News in 1982, accompanying then- vice president George Bush on domestic and foreign trips and on his 1988 presidential campaign. She has since covered numerous major stories, including Nelson Mandela's release from prison in South Africa, the Persian Gulf war, the Tiananmen Square massacre, the Clarence Thomas--Anita Hill Supreme Court hearings, and President Clinton's impeachment trial. She has received many awards for reporting on social issues as well as for her work to improve opportunities for women and minorities in broadcasting.
