Communications Alumnus Talks TV Advertising

As he has frequently done in the past, a successful television-radio alumnus has taken time out of his busy schedule to talk to IC students about his industry. Chuck Bachrach ’68 --- a top negotiator in buying network TV ads --- offered his take on this fall’s prime-time television shows at a presentation in Park Hall Auditorium in September. Discussion topics included canceled and returning programs and how new shows could fare against old favorites. As executive vice president and director of media resources and programming, Bachrach oversees media buying at Rubin Postaer and Associates in Los Angeles. He has been interviewed about network programming decisions by NBC Nightly News, Entertainment Tonight, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and Advertising Age.

In 1980 Bachrach was honored with the Park School’s first Ceracche Distinguished Achievement Award. He frequently returns to his alma mater to give public talks and meet with students and faculty in the Roy H. Park School of Communications. During this year’s three-day visit he attended classes and discussed mass media research, programming and promotion, and marketing principles. "Chuck Bachrach is a very dedicated alumnus who consistently gives back to the College and especially the Park School," says Park School administrative assistant for special programs April Korpi, who organized this year’s program. "The audience really enjoys his visits --- so much so that during this year’s presentation, there was standing-room only in the auditorium."
