Andrea Russin
gave birth to twin girls just four days after her husband, Steven
Russin ’91, was killed in the attacks. The couple’s older child,
Alec Joseph, turned two a week later.
Steven was a
born businessman: he started an entrepreneurial venture, selling
baseball cards, while still in high school. The income he earned
helped him pay for college.
He was a bond
trader at Cantor Fitzgerald, the company hit hardest in the tragedy
(so many young family men were killed that there’s now a Cantor
Fitzgerald widows organization).
Steven grew
up in New Jersey; he and Andrea met in 1994 and married in 1996.
"He loved his job and was very good at it," Andrea says of Steven’s
work as a government securities trader.
Alec is having
a hard time adjusting to life without his devoted father. "He was
a fantastic father and a lot of fun to be with," says Andrea. "He
enjoyed life to the fullest."
Steven and Andrea
had picked out the names Ariella Dayle and Olivia Gail for the twins;
since his death, Andrea added Sarah and Sabrina as third names in
Steven’s honor (a Jewish tradition calls for naming children, either
the full name or at least the first initial, after a deceased relative).
