At its February meeting the Ithaca College Board of Trustees awarded
emeritus status to a retired biology professor and granted tenure and/or
promotion to the incoming provost/vice president for academic affairs
and to eight faculty members.
Emeritus Status
John "Jack" Bernard, who retired in 2000 after more

His research focused on life history, production, and nutrient cycling
in wetland plants, especially the genus Carex, and over the years
he was awarded grants from the National Science Foundation, United States
Geological Survey, and New York State Energy Research and Development
Authority. His last NSF grant funded a three-year project to study the
effects of pollution on clonal plant development in the United States
and the Czech Republic. He presented invited papers at numerous international
conferences and published articles in a variety of biology journals.
