"Engaging Democracy and Troubling the Water"

Guest Edward Quevedo chats with biology professor Susan Allen-Gil.

That's the theme for an ongoing series hosted by the Office of the Provost and the Division of Interdisciplinary and International Studies in collaboration with other offices. This semester's offerings included a powerful documentary, The Intolerable Burden, about the persistence of racial segregation in the Mississippi education system. Director Chea Prince and producer Constance Curry were on campus for the screening and meetings with students and faculty. Other visitors included environmental consultant Edward Quevedo, founder and executive director of the Center for Public Integrity Chuck Lewis, and "news dissector" Danny Schechter. All the events have been well attended and, Provost Peter Bardaglio says, are helping to "turn up the intellectual heat on campus."
