Faculty Focus
2005 Excellence Awards

Jean Hardwick, Stephen Mosher, and Baruch Whitehead received this year's faculty awards.

The Excellence in Scholarship Award was presented to Hardwick, associate professor of biology, who has been at Ithaca since 1997. Her research focuses primarily on different chemicals released by the body and how they can alter the activity of the nervous system and affect cardiac function. She has done much of this work in collaboration with her IC students.

Whitehead received the Excellence in Service Award. Since joining the music faculty in 2002 as an assistant professor, he has worked to further connections between the College and the surrounding community. His service projects include directing the IC Amani Gospel Singers, giving workshops in local schools, and working with the Martin Luther King Elementary School in Utica on various projects.

Mosher, professor of sport management and media, was given the Excellence in Teaching Award. Mosher, who has been a member of the HSHP faculty since 1987, was cited for his ability to go beyond what is found in a textbook and his ability to "engage students in meaningful dialogue about the world and their lives."
