Dean of health sciences and human performance Steven Siconolfi visited China’s Beijing Sport University in May 2005. He learned that Beijing students were interested in U.S. sport management programs—so of course he arranged for them to come to Ithaca.
In late August and for two weeks into the new school year, Ithaca’s sport management and media faculty member John Wolohan and his department, with the help of Hongwei Guan, assistant professor of health promotion and physical education, played host to 15 Chinese students and Beijing faculty member Zou Xinxian (“Maggie”) and counselor Zhang Lili (“Lilly”). With the 2008 summer Olympics taking place in Beijing, this is an especially exciting time for Ithaca College to be building a strong relationship with Beijing Sport University. There is talk with the Beijing Olympic Committee about how IC students might be involved, and Siconolfi tentatively plans to host more Chinese students for study in Ithaca. Wolohan is arranging to return to China in August with another group of students to work with the NFL on an exhibition game between New England and Seattle in Beijing.
