W. Grant Egbert
Founder, Musical Director and President of Ithaca Conservatory of Music, 1892-1924.

The term "president" can only be loosely applied to W. Grant Egbert. When he retired from the presidency in 1924, he was referred to as "President of the Board." Whatever his title, as founder and as leader of the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, W. Grant Egbert was key to the management of the institution. Throughout his life's work with the conservatory, he taught, he studied, and he provided leadership.

As the founder, there were no ceremonies for the beginning of Egbert's leadership years beyond those of beginning a new educational endeavor. For the Ithaca Conservatory of Music, the founding event was a concert by the faculty in the old Unitarian Church after a day of registrations and auditions in September 1892.
