Women of Distinction Award

Asma Barlas, associate professor and chair of the politics department, was recognized by the State Senate of New York as a "Woman of Distinction" for 2003 (district 53). Senator Randy Kuhl Jr. presented a certificate and proclamation to this effect at a reception in Albany on June 3.

Ishrat Mustafa, president of the Corning-based South Asian-American Women's Association (SAAWA) nominated Barlas for this award, which recognizes the contributions of women to "this great Empire State."
