Mead Loop '88, assistant professor of journalism, was appointed to the board of directors of the Sigma Delta Chi Foundation, which funds the philanthropic needs of the Society of Professional Journalists.

The foundation receives, invests, and administers gifts, and has an endowment of $9.6 million. Loop's responsibility as a member of the grants committee is to recommend what SDX will fund for journalism education and professional development. SDX funds about $300,000 annually in projects. Loop also is on the communications committee of the board. In 2002, he was elected to the board of directors of SPJ as national campus adviser. In that role, he advises campus chapters nationwide on organization, programming, as well as promotes first amendment concerns on campuses.
