On Friday, October 8, the Ithaca College Symphony Orchestra, under Jeffrey Grogan's direction, offers its first concert of the season.

The concert is free and begins at 8:15 in Ford Hall on the Ithaca College campus.

The orchestra, comprising 95 musicians, opens with Beethoven's dramatic Egmont Overture, followed by Fantasies for Orchestra by Ithaca's legendary Karel Husa.

Ithaca College ensembles have a special affinity for Husa's music, in part because the composer graciously agrees to come to a rehearsal and coach the players, where his ebullience always shines. "He always seems so flattered that people want to perform his music," Grogan noted.

The concert concludes with Dvorak's beautiful and exciting Symphony No. 8.
