Saturday, October 23, is National Make a Difference Day. Created by USA Weekend Magazine, Make a Difference Day is an annual event that takes place to inspire a celebration of community involvement and to encourage neighbors helping neighbors.
In honor of this spirit of community, Ithaca College has teamed up with the South Hill Civic Association to sponsor a clean-up in the area that surrounds the campus. The Ithaca College Senior Class and the Ithaca College Peer Volunteer Corps have been working hard to recruit students to participate in the neighborhood efforts.
The Senior Class has joined this event to inspire off-campus seniors living in the neighborhood to participate as neighbors along with South Hill residents. Flyers will be distributed throughout the neighborhood to encourage participation in the event. The Ithaca College Peer Volunteer Corps has created a new initiative this year called Service Saturdays and has selected this event as its October challenge. Service Saturdays are meant to provide a simple, easy, but impactful volunteer opportunity for Ithaca College students interested in getting some service experience and joining in a community event.
The clean-up will begin at 9:00 a.m. and will run through noon. Breakfast will be provided for all participants. A check-in will be posted near the breakfast tent at the corner of Renzetti Place and Hudson Street. The event is open to all Ithaca College and South Hill community members. Trash bags and gloves will be provided. Ithaca College will provide trash bag collection service after the event is over.
