All-USA Academic Team Nominations

Forms are available in each dean's office for faculty who wish to nominate a student for USA Today's 2005 All-USA Academic Team.

Students who think they qualify should get a professor to nominate them. November 30 is the postmark deadline for nominations and supporting materials.

The 20 members of the first team will each receive a $2,500 award. Ithaca College last placed a student -- Wendy Clement -- on the All-USA (third) Team in 2002.

Criteria for team membership include excellence in leadership roles on and off campus as well as excellence in scholarship. The selection committee looks at honors and awards already received, campus activities, community and professional activities, internships, and demonstration of scholarship or talent. A key element is the nominee's ability to describe his/her most original academic or intellectual endeavor in an essay.

Any full-time undergraduate student with at least sophomore standing is eligible to be nominated. This includes seniors who expect to graduate in December 2004. In addition to a letter of nomination from a professor, two additional letters of recommendation are required. Nominees must fill out a section of the nomination form and provide supporting documentation including an official transcript. Completed nominations must be signed by the nominee, the nominating professor, and the dean.
