In the coming months, the Compensation & Organizational Design Department within the Office of Human Resources will begin an extensive review and revision of the current compensation program for staff and administration.
We are in the process of interviewing a number of consulting firms that have substantial experience in the area of compensation at Institutions of Higher Education. One will be selected to assist us with this thorough review of our program, policies, and procedures. This project will include an assessment of the current job evaluation system, the number of grade levels, the procedures governing the annual review of salaries, the awarding of merit increases, and a market analysis and review of our salary structure. New methods for evaluating positions and developing a salary structure will be fully explored. Workload and concerns regarding staffing levels will also be reviewed.
Since this project will be very involved and will require the full attention of the Compensation and Organizational Design Department, beginning November 1, 2005 we will suspend the review of requests for individual position evaluations/reclassifications. We will continue to review requests for new positions that need to be placed into the grading structure and we will review vacant positions and complete any required restructuring on a case-by-case basis. In those limited cases, we will continue to use the current position evaluation method/tool for determining grade levels. The consultant will be working with us to identify any changes that may need to be made to our program. Therefore, continuing to review individual positions while this process is underway would not be an effective use of the limited resources we have available.
