A trio of free jazz concerts will be offered at Ithaca College in the coming days:
On Friday, December 8 at 8:15 p.m., the “Jazz Workshop” big band under the direction of Steve Brown will perform in Ford Hall. They will welcome guest trumpet soloist Alex Meixner and guest saxophone soloist Rick Hirsch for a concert that will include music by Chick Corea, Gerry Mulligan, Slide Hampton, Alex Meixner, Wayne Shorter, Miles Davis, and others.
On Monday, December 11, the Vocal Jazz Ensemble, led by Lauri Robinson-Keegan will give a free concert at 8:15 p.m. in Ford Hall. They will welcome the Trumansburg High School Vocal Jazz Ensemble under the direction of Donna Ambrose. In addition to vocal and instrumental selections from each separate group, they will combine for "Do Nothin' 'Til You Hear From Me" arranged by IC alum Darmon Meader, "Spain" by Chick Corea, and Dave Riley's "A Celtic Blessing."
On Wednesday, December 13 at 8:15 p.m., the other Ithaca College big band, also under Steve Brown’s direction, will present a concert in Ford Hall. Dave Pietro will be the guest saxophone soloist. Music of Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, Dave Pietro, Steve Brown, and others is on the program.
