Three students and one alumna of the Recreation and Leisure Studies Department's outdoor adventure leadership program received scholarships at the National Conference of Outdoor Leadership.

Lauren Barnes, an outdoor adventure leadership graduate, received two scholarships, both from the Kitty Drury Fund provided by the Wilderness Education Association. Barnes received $295 to cover her conference registration as well as $125 to cover her registration for the instructor training clinic to become a Wilderness Education Association certifying instructor. Barnes will be completing her progression to become a certifying instructor this May with Chris Pelchat, an instructor within the RLS department.

Caleb Campbell, an outdoor adventure leadership major, was awarded a $500 scholarship towards the tuition of any International Wilderness Leadership School (IWLS) program. IWLS specializes in providing the highest-quality wilderness education, outdoor leadership training, and technical instruction.

Tom Healy and Sarah Kelly, both outdoor adventure leadership majors, were each awarded $500 scholarships toward the tuition of any American Alpine Institute (AAI) program. AAI has been called the best all-around climbing school and guide service in North America.
