The Office of Public Safety is pleased to announce the appointment of David J. Dray as Assistant Director/Deputy Chief for Patrol Operations.
David comes to us with more than 20 years of service in law enforcement, offering a broad range of experience including practice in campus policing, municipal policing and military policing.
David will join us on January 4, 2010. Until then he will continue his work with the Westfield Department of Public Safety at Westfield State College in Massachusetts where he is responsible for the management, supervision and training of sworn personnel, with additional duties as the Emergency Management Coordinator & Planner. David’s current duties and responsibilities are an excellent match with, and preparation for, the Assistant Director/Deputy Chief position.
David served in the military, attaining the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. Immediately after leaving the service David attended police academy and received state certification in Ohio where he served with the Delphos Ohio Police Department as a senior ranking officer. In addition to his other duties, David was a state certified police instructor and taught in-service and police academy training during this time.
In 1999, while still working for the Delphos Police Department, David participated in the U. N. Peacekeeping Mission in East Timor where he was the third ranking police official. While in East Timor, and in his position as Chief Police Personnel Officer, David was responsible for more than 1400 officers from over 40 different nations, while directly supervising more than 40 officers. In this position, David’s areas of responsibility included personnel, training, internal affairs and finance.
David is a graduate of Westfield State College with a Masters in Public Administration and of Mountain State University with a Bachelors in Criminal Justice.
David and his wife Patricia have been married for over 20 years and have a daughter Brittany who will be a junior in college and who will be getting married next June.
Please join us in congratulating David and welcoming him to the Ithaca College community.
