Samantha Yu, a freshman film, photography & visual arts major, is one of ten students chosen to be a student delegate at the 30th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival (SFIAAFF), held in San Francisco March 8-18.

Yu, the youngest of all the student delegates, was chosen from a competitive pool of undergraduate and graduate students.

The students participate in a rigorous schedule of film screenings, discussions, and exclusive meetings with filmmakers and special guests. The goal of the program is to cultivate the next generation of filmmakers, activists, educators, and community leaders. Yu also earned a James B. Pendleton Grant to help fund her travel to San Francisco.

The Center for Asian American Media presents SFIAAFF every March. According to the festival website, it is the largest and most prestigious showcase for new Asian American and Asian films in North America, annually presenting approximately 120 works in San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose. SFIAAFF also features the best in Asian American music and digital and interactive media. Since 1982, the SFIAAFF has been an important launching point for Asian American independent filmmakers as well as a vital source for new Asian cinema.

One the festival’s delegate page, Yu says she enjoys Ithaca College’s program because she is “receiving incomparable learning opportunities about the film art, form, and power.”
