Planning to work with children? Love children's books and films?Contributed by Katharine Kittredge on 04/12/2012
English 217: Children’s Literature (3 credits) May 14-25, 2012. Katharine Kittredge is offering a hands-on exploration of all aspects of Children’s Literature during the two weeks of the May Session.
We make 18th century chapbooks, visit the Cornell archive to read 19th century children’s magazines, and look at picture books at the Tompkins County Public Library. We will also be reading fairytales, graphic novels, realistic and fantasy YA fiction, and poetry by Shel Silverstein and others. Films include Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid, Stand By Me, The Outsiders, Peter Pan, and Princess Mononoke.
