Mara Alper’s video art Silent Echoes will screen at the Institute of Contemporary Art in London on April 19. It is part of Artists’ Film Club: Work from the Experimental TV Center Archive, a curated program “celebrating the great works that have been made at the Experimental Television Center over the years.” Alper has garnered numerous artist residencies and grants from ETC. Silent Echoes (1990) is a poetic exploration of issues of diversity in the workplace in the life of a spirited Haitian dancer.
The Experimental TV Center was founded in 1971. For over four decades it has been instrumental in the development of video and new media art, and has supported the careers of hundreds of artists. The screening features works made between 1979 and 2007, by artists Mara Alper, Nancy Buchanan, Connie Coleman & Alan Powell, Andrew Deutsch, Liselot van der Heijden, Henry Linhart, Henry Linhart & Joshua Fried, Bianca Bob Miller, Lynne Sachs, and Matthew Schlanger. This Artists’ Film Club is selected by ICA Associate Curator of Artists' Moving Image, Steven Cairns, and artist James Richards.
The Institute of Contemporary Art/London is considered one of the world's most innovative, cutting-edge arts centers. Home to the best of new art and cultural thinking, they present a unique program of visual art, films, talks, performance and special events.
