Ithaca Area Under Tornado Watch Until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 18Contributed by David Maley on 09/18/2012 The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Ithaca and surrounding areas in effect until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept 18. A Tornado Watch means that conditions are favorable for the development of severe thunderstorms producing tornadoes in and close to the watch area. Those living in watch areas are advised to monitor weather reports for a possible upgrade to a Tornado Warning, which means that a tornado is indicated by radar or sighted by trained storm spotters. As noted in the Ithaca College Emergency Response Guide, the following actions should be taken if a Tornado Warning is issued for your locality. If you are indoors: If you are outside: On campus, call the Office of Public Safety using 911 from any campus phone or 274-3333 from any cell phone to report any injuries or storm damage.
