Submitted on behalf of IC students interested in starting a support group for men to talk about things that impact their lives.
Last semester, a group of students collaborated to form Active Men, a branch of Active Minds, to raise awareness about men and mental health. The group addressed the stigma about men seeking mental health support (counseling) by creating posters, a display case exhibit, and hosted a guest speaker who talked about his reluctance to seek help due to the pressures and negative social construction of masculinity.
If you are interested in joining a group of guys for serious conversationt, we'll begin meeting Tuesday, October 30, 5:15-6:30pm. The plan is to meet weekly. If you are interested in being a part of this group, send an email to Dr. LeBron Rankins <firstname.lastname@example.org) at Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) before Monday, October 29, 2012.
Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact LeBron Rankins at email@example.com or (607) 274-3136. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
