Contributed by Heather Hedges on 12/10/2012

School of Health Sciences and Human Performance Associate Dean John Sigg and Associate Professor of Health Promotion and Physical Education Hongwei Guan visited China November 1-11, 2012.

While in China they visited the Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (NYOGOC) and discussed potential collaborative programs and projects with representatives from the Culture & Education Department. They also met the Vice President of Nanjing Institute of Physical Education and representatives from the Education Department of Jiangsu Province.

Associate Dean John Sigg and Associate Professor Hongwei Guan visited Ithaca College’s partner institution Chendu Sport University and discussed potential collaborative programs between the two institutions. While at Chendu Sport University they made a presentation about Ithaca College Programs and Ithaca College student’s China study experiences.

They attended the 60th Anniversary celebration of Shanghai University of Sport. They were also invited to visited the School of Sport and Health at East China Normal University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics during the trip.

Associate Professor Hongwei Guan was invited to present at the National Training Program for Physical Education Teachers at East China Normal University. He presented "Presidential Youth Fitness Program" and its assessment method, FitnessGram, to more than 200 Physical Education teachers from different areas of China.

Many potential collaborative and experiential learning opportunities for HSHP faculty and students exist in China. These opportunities can greatly benefit our faculty and students while enriching our educational programs offered at IC and abroad -- aligning with the IC2020 initiatives.
