Sustainability Café on February 4th will look at developing a robust local food system

The first Sustainability Café of the semester - on Monday, February 4th - will feature Monika Roth, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County Agriculture Program Leader addressing the topic of Growing a Local Food System.”  The Sustainability Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM, in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. The Spring 2013 Sustainability Café/Environmental Seminar series is focused on our local food system.  

Under Monika Roth’s leadership, CCE-Tompkins’ Ag program offers a continuum of education and resources that enable it to address food-related issues in a uniquely holistic way. Working at a food-system level, the Ag program team more effectively responds to cross-cutting needs such as food safety, food access, local agriculture and community infrastructure. CCE offers resources for both farmers and consumers to help strengthen our local and regional food systems. Monika has helped develop innovative programs such as Groundswell Center for Food and Farming, Ithaca Childrens’ Garden, Gardens 4 Humanity, Buy Local campaign, Healthy Food for All, the CSA Fair, and seed exchange library.

This event is free and open to the public.

“Teachable edibles” – local, organic and/or seasonal snacks – for the Spring 2013 Sustainability Café series are being sponsored by Ithaca College Dining Services whose motto is “Sustainability – Healthy – Fresh.” Please bring your reusable mug and fill up at the nearest drinking fountain or provide your own beverage of choice.

Drink in a new way to think in the Sustainability Café.
