The Sustainability Café on Monday, April 15th will feature Shane Hardy from Cropsey Community Farm discussing his transition “From Philosophy to Farming: Dirty Hands Make the Heart Sing (And Keep You Grounded!)" The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM, in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. The Spring 2013 Sustainability Café/Environmental Seminar series is focused on our local food system.
Shane Hardy ’09 works for the Rockland Farm Alliance and has recently become the farm manager at Cropsey Community Farm, an organically- and biodynamically-managed diverse vegetable farm with 170 CSA members. This year, Cropsey will offer a farmer's market and work with a few restaurants. Hardy will talk about his journey growing up as a suburban kid who majored in philosophy and religion at IC and will try to explain “how the hell I got to where I am now: managing a small farm four years later.”
“Teachable edibles” – local, organic and/or seasonal snacks – for the Spring 2013 Sustainability Café series are being sponsored by Ithaca College Dining Services whose motto is “Sustainability – Healthy – Fresh.” Please bring your reusable mug and fill up at the nearest drinking fountain or provide your own beverage of choice.
