A combustible cantata combining Medieval, Baroque, and 20th century musical styles, Carmina Burana draws on bawdy, satirical 13th century secular poems about cavorting, criticizing, drinking, dancing, fate, fortune, gluttony, gaming, love, lust, mockery, moxy, nature, nomads, passion, protest, thinking.
Drawing on pianos as the foundation for the original opulent, epic work for singers and chorale, this two-piano, multi-instrumental mobile version of Carmina Burana sharpens the rhythmic, color, and structural processes in the score, inviting us to listen with new ears.
