The Sustainability Café on Monday, April 7th will feature Dr. Nancy Jacobson, speaking about her work “Teaching Climate Change to Freshman Non-majors.” The Café will be held in Center for Natural Sciences Room 112 at 4:00PM, in conjunction with the Environmental Seminar. The Spring 2014 Sustainability Café/Environmental Seminar series is focused on the concept of Campus Sustainability: Hiding in Plain Sight.
Dr. Nancy Jacobson, assistant professor of biology, designed the Ithaca Seminar titled “Global Warming: It’s a Hot Topic,” which explored global warming and the resulting climate change through the lens of power, justice, and sustainability. The course looked at the power and limitations of science to explain current climate change and to predict what we will see in the future, and explored the concept of climate justice. Students took on the roles of scientists and policy makers in various countries to understand the global differences in the impact of climate change on them and their power to prevent or adapt to it.
